The game felt very much like a reskin of Civ V rather than a new game. One of Beyond Earth's biggest failings was its lack of creativity in using its futuristic setting to innovate gameplay. So we sailed up to the sun, till we found a sea of green Both of these complaints ended up being the major focus of the first expansion, which definitely helps to make Beyond Earth stand out a little bit from its more realistic counterpart. In my original review for Beyond Earth, my two biggest complaints were that the game and its leaders lacked the personality and variety of Civilization V, and that it just didn't feel futuristic enough. This expansion seeks to remedy several of the core complaints with the Beyond Earth game. Well, now the teams at Firaxis have also implemented a variation of my idea for their new expansion to Beyond Earth, called Rising Tide. They had apparently come up with almost the same idea independently at the same time. Around the same time, Creative Assembly announced Attila: Total War. Earlier this year, I started tossing around the idea of Nomadic civilizations for future Civ games. I'm starting to feel like quite the prognosticator. Mobile cities is a feature pulled directly from my own Civ wishlist, but it feels like a contrivance since the map itself is not in flux. Leaders hardly ever talk anymore, which eliminates repetitive dialogue, but also makes game sound even more bland.Ĭompletely redesigned diplomacy and aquatic gameplay helps separate this game from Civ V and adds customizeable personality to the leaders. A lot more artwork for wonders, technologies, quests, and so on give the game a bit more visual flair. Ocean depths and water resources make maps look a bit more alien and varied. New diplomacy system rewards both cooperation and military intimidation, but can also become very passive. You can join the discussion on Civilization Rising Tide on the OC3D Forums. The seas (and navies) feel like a more active part of gameplay, but air units still feel completely underdeveloped. Hopefully this Expansion will satisfy this itch of mine. Personally I really look forward to this expansion, as while I enjoy Beyond Earth I wish it had the depth that Brave New World had. The new additions this expansion will bring to Beyond Earth will definitely do a lot to increase the depth of this game and increase my playtime beyond the 104 hours that Steam has recorded.Ĭivilization: Beyond Earths Rising Tide Expansion will arrive in Autumn of this year for the price of £20, though it will require a copy of Beyond Earth to play, as this is an Expansion in the traditional Sense, not DLC. While Beyond Earth has been considered by many as a great game, it has equally been snubbed by many as a game which was not as deep as it's predecessor (When it has all of it's expansions), Civilization 5: A Brave New World.

- Investing in multiple Affinities to unlock hybrid Affinity units and upgrades for the first time.- Playing as one of four new factions, including the Al Falah, a group of nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states.- Unlocking a dynamic set of Diplomatic Traits while activating different combinations in response to the changing world.- Shaping the diplomatic landscape by upgrading traits, changing diplomatic relationships, and leveraging the benefits of your allies, all with political capital.

- Building floating settlements and accessing natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet, while alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge players in distinctive ways. Here are a few features of the new Expansion, as detailed in 2K's press release on the game Rising Tide will be a Expansion in the Traditional sense, not just a simple DLC which adds a singular feature or just a few extra hours onto the original title, it truly innovates the gameplay of the original and should deliver a package that is worth the asking price of £20, at least for those who liked Vanilla or modded Beyond Earth. Want to take City Building to the high seas? We certainly look forward to trying it.
